Four high school students from the Long Beach Unified School District have earned 2007 Achievement Awards in Writing from the National Council of Teachers of English. The winners are Poly High School’s Mathew Eldon and Wilson High School’s Justine Armstrong, Emily Munoz-Snyder and Sally Westcott.
The four seniors are among 595 high school students honored nationwide. The awards were established in 1957 to recognize some of the best student writers in the nation. Awards are based on students’ samples of their own best prose or verse and on impromptu themes that are written under supervision. A team of English teachers from throughout the students’ home state judges the writing.
