Keeping our students safe is one of our highest priorities. In an effort to avoid preventable tragedies, the Long Beach Unified School District is considering a formal practice of reviewing public social media posts from time to time in order to prevent and address threats to the safety and well-being of our students. Prior to adopting a program to gather or maintain any information from social media of pupils, the school district wants to give students and parents an opportunity to share their views on the proposed online social media safety program. You may find the proposed program on pages 16 to 17 of this draft update to administrative regulations regarding student records. We welcome parents and students to share their views at the Board of Education’s meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 at 1515 Hughes Way, Long Beach.
